I’m confident that whatever you were listening at thirteen years old defines your taste for life. For me it was Tim Westwood dropping bombs on Radio One. He is mostly remembered for his affected ‘street’ voice that was so absurd you couldn’t really question it.
I listened almost solely to Hip Hop until I was 16. Then the Marshall Mather’s album came out.
A class mate at the sports academy I attended went home from our shared dorms for a long weekend. Somehow he managed to leave and lock his door without noticing that his hi-fi was still playing Eminem’s ‘Stan’ full blast. ON REPEAT.
How could you not notice that!?!
It played solidly for four days. We tried on the third night to kick his door down but it wouldn’t budge. It was no use. I was fifteen years before I could listen to Hip Hop again.
